"I'd feel like my blood was going to boil" - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at 30
As one of my favourite films growing up, it was super fun getting to talk to Director Steve Barron and actor Josh Pais (AKA Raphael) about the claustrophobic endurance trial of creating nostalgic cult classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie in celebration of its 30th birthday. Community: An Oral History
Throughout most of 2019, I was working on an Oral History piece celebrating the turbulent life and beloved legacy of Dan Harmon's cult-favourite TV series Community. By talking to the majority of its cast - including Joel McHale, Alison Brie, Danny Pudi, Ken Jeong and Jim Rash - I was able to share the share the show's rollercoaster journey of ups, downs, firings, re-hirings, cancellations and fan resurrections, as told by those who lived through it. Then, just when it was ready to go, it got unexpectedly shelved.
Cut to March 2020 and as the show prepared to make its Netflix debut, the article found an unexpected new lease of life. After a bit of pivoting, I was able to get series creator Dan Harmon in on the action and then shortly after the piece debuted, star Yvette Nicole Brown joined her cast-mates and shared her input too. The finished feature can be read on The Independent - simply click he photo below.
