SFX is the UK's leading science fiction and fantasy magazine and I've been freelancing for them since 2009. In that time, I've contributed numerous news stories, Q&As and multi-page feature articles.
Below, you'll find a selection of my published work but due to the physical nature of print journalism, it's difficult to keep this page as fresh as I'd like. For an up-to-date account of my SFX articles, visit my Instagram instead.

Shortly before Bill and Ted Face The Music entered production, I spoke to the duo's real-life alter-egos, screenwriters Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, about the bittersweet process of creating 1991's bigger, bolder - and decidedly darker - sequel, Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey.

Producer Exclusive: The Nutcracker And The Four Realms
Disney pulled out a colourful Christmas cracker with the SFX-laden The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. I had a chat with Producer Mark Gordon that ended up becoming a magazine exclusive...
Bruce Campbell Talks ASh Williams
Just before Halloween 2018, I was lucky enough to talk with bonafide movie-icon Bruce Campbell about what exactly it is about his Evil Dead alter-ego Ash Williams that makes him such a stone-cold hero.
The Happytime Murders
Muppet-royalty Brian Henson returned to the world of puppets with 2018's raunchy comedy The Happytime Murders. Having spoken to Brian previously for my 2017 piece on The Muppet Christmas Carol for SciFiNow, it was great getting to talk to him again about his return to felt filmmaking.
My Sci Fi:Ed Gamble
Back in 2018, I spoke to comedian Ed Gamble about his inner-geek tendencies and sci-fi guilty pleasures.
My Sci Fi: Bill Hader
Saturday Night Live icon Bill Hader knows his stuff when it comes to science fiction. It was great getting to chat movies with him back in early 2018.
Time Machine: Who Framed Roger Rabbit
I pitched the idea of revisiting Robert Zemeckis' ahead-of-its-time classic Who Framed Roger Rabbit in celebration of its 30th birthday. Author Gary K. Wolf shared the full story of Roger's evolution, from pulp noir superstar, to big screen icon and inductee to the National Film Preservation Foundation. Comedian, voice actor and Roger's real-life alter-ego Charles Fleischer was harder to track down but totally worth the wait, especially when Roger piped in towards the end of our chat to share his thoughts on turning 30...
Time Machine: Bill And Ted's Excellent Adventure
As one of my favourite childhood films, it was a thrill to revisit Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure with series co-creator Chris Matheson and star Alex Winter. This multi-page feature chronicled the whole trip, from inception, to cruising through the circuits of time and changing pop-culture history. It was great finally seeing this in print!
Frank Oz On Muppet Guys Talking
Frank Oz is a legend for many reasons, not least of all for his work with Jim Henson and The Muppets. I was lucky enough to have a great conversation with him about his new documentary Muppet Guys Talking which offers an insider look at the history of the Muppets directly from the performers themselves...

Nicolas Cage turns the Nicolas Cage up to 11 in Brian Taylor's wired-horror Mom and Dad. I spoke to him as a 'Director Exclusive' to find out how he survived getting into the cage with Cage.
Insidious: The Last Key & My Sci-Fi - Rupert Grint
Director Adam Robitel continues the story James Wan Insidious franchise with part four, The Last Key. I spoke to him about Elise Rainier and the secrets of The Further for SFX's first issue of 2018. Coincidentally, my sci-fi chat with Rupert Grint also appeared on the same page.
30 Years of the Lost Boys
I've contributed a lot of news stories to SFX over the years but this was my debut feature. I spoke to stars Jamison Newlander and Alex Winter about working on 80s teen classic The Lost Boys in celebration of the film's 30th birthday. Really happy with how this one turned out.
My Sci-Fi - Patton Oswalt
After quizzing Patton Oswalt on his favourite movies for Total Film, I also managed to get him to spill the beans about his love of sci-fi. As you can imagine, he had quite a lot to say.
5 Things You Need To Know About... Cult of Chucky
Child's Play was one of the first horror movies I ever remember seeing as a kid, so it was really fun getting to talk to franchise mastermind Don Mancini about Chucky's latest outing Cult of Chucky and the enduring appeal of a true genre icon.
Phoenix Forgotten
When I heard mega-Director Ridley Scott had put his Producing skills behind a low-budget, quasi-found footage based around the Phoenix Lights incident I was instantly intrigued. Eager to find out more, I spoke to Director Justin Barber about his experiences making the movie and working with Scott for a full-page SFX feature.
My Sci-Fi - Dani Filth
Cradle of Filth rocker, comic-book writer and all around nice guy Dani Filth was kind enough to chat to me about his science fiction fascinations for this ace SFX regular feature. Fun fact: Filth owns a life size Dalek. Think about that next time you see him screaming into a mic.
Joe Manganiello - Deathstroke
Surprisingly, Joe Manganiello shared so much about his upcoming role as The Batman baddie Deathstroke that I was able to spin a second feature article (the first was in Total Film) out of our chat. However, with DC's recent director shuffles regarding The Dark Knight's new solo outing, only time will tell if we'll eventually see Bruce Wayne go toe-to-toe with Slade Wilson...
Shock doc: Christopher lloyd on I Am not a serial killer
For those who may be unaware, SFX is owned by Future PLC, the same company that owns Total Film. Having recently spoken to actor Christopher Lloyd for a Q&A in the latter's December issue, I had a wealth of unused material regarding his new indie-horror I Am Not A Serial Killer left over. Determined to put it to good use, I pitched the idea for a short news story to go in the Red Alert section of SFX which was ultimately picked up. The full article can be found below...

Back in 2015, megastar Arnold Schwarzenegger returned to acting and immediately switched gears with Maggie, a zombie film with more heart. Paranorman
Having completed a number of shorter news stories for SFX, I eventually started to pitch bigger ideas. This lead to the publication of my first full-page news story for the magazine that even received a mini by-line on the cover. I remember seeing the trailer for Laika's stop motion kid-horror Paranorman and thinking it was really cool. I pitched an idea to SFX that involved talking to Director's Chris Butler and Sam Fell about the gestation of the project and by setting up some duel interview time, the piece went ahead.

Red Alert
I've contributed heavily to the Red Alert section of SFX. This area is dedicated to genre news and updates on upcoming movies.
By interviewing the likes of actor/director Alex Winter, Underworld franchise mastermind Kevin Grevioux and even my old Film Studies tutor Joseph Delaney, I've managed to build up a small portfolio's worth of published news article copy within my overall portfolio.
